I am thinking about creating a plugin which monitors the health status of my NAS' hard disks and lets me browse through the contents of my syslog.

For the browsing through the syslog some simple text viewer who starts a shell script and shows the output would be enough
For the display of the system health status I was thinking about a customizable icon in the statusbar which is updated by a script which runs at a periodic time (e.g. via cron).

Is there a chance to have these features available?

Another question by the way: is there a place where we can see the source of your firmware? Is it GPL?

Hi,

You can install without making a backup.
First update to the loader, then update to the ListenLive 1.4 firmware.

It is possible to go back to the original firmware.
However, the original firmware that is right now on your box does have various bugs.
These bugs do not immediatly show when playing music etc. but they are present.
One of them is what I call the "Killerbug" this bug corrupts randomly the flash memory.
The effect of the killerbug is that it can corrupt a fair part of the flash memory without fatal damage.
However, when it does corrupt the OS it is game over. Xenta owners (the oldest models around)
have a lot of problems with this and in most cases it happens after the warranty has expired.
I can repair them but this is not a fun thing of course.
This bug does also occure on brand new hardware and I have seen devices brand new that experienced
damaged flash memory.  Obviously because of that bug, my advise is to move away from the original firmware as fast as you can.

If you use the device as an alarm clock then you might want to wait a bit until the next release as the alarm is not functioning very well.
Only Alarm is working and only if you use a standard sound and reactivate the alarm every day.
This is fixed but I have been too busy to finalize the code.. of course this will happen as soon as possible.

Hi all !

Thanks for your great work.
I'm about to install your firmware on my Arnova, but there is one thing I haven't understood.

What are the possibilities—if necessary—to go back to the original firmware?
I've read on several threads that it's possible, but that a "killer bug" corrupts flash memory.
What does it mean? What are the implications ?

Also, is it possible/necessary/wanted to do backup the device before installing the new firmwares ?
