William,

Let me make a suggestion regarding FM mode (now using FW1.42);
1) I have to constantly switch between manual tuning (to tune) and preset mode (to in/decrement preset) in order set preset stations.
Can the PgUP/PgDown on the extended RC be assigned to in/decrement the the preset key value? These seem to be without function, hence 'free' to assign... and it would save a considerable number of key-strokes..
2) Can the number of presets be increased to at least 10/12 ? Only 6 stations seems to be rather low for a crowded FM band.....

Normally I disconnect the unit at night, but last night I just switched it of. So now I noticed the following.
This morning the alarm sunddenly sounded, without being set.... I checked the alarm settings, and indeed nothing shows up (not set)...
Is this perhaps a known bug??

Hans

The 6 preset idea Is taken from car radios. Indeed some have fm1/fm2 to give 12 presets. I will check how to improve this. In 1.43 the antenna question when entering fm radio can be disabled in settigs. The alarm is known and there are fixes and other solutions in 1.43 including an alarm info screen that shows alarm 1 and 2 but also the setting of the alarm values in the real time clock hardware.

Feature request: Is there any change you will add a last.fm or Spotify app in a future version?

To integrate Spotify libspotify is needed. This is not available for the MIPS platform yet.
Last.fm: applied for a developer account now digging through the documents.

1.43 already has been extended with TuneIn (formerly RadioTime) and Icecast Yellow Pages

Thanks for the time you spend on figuring this out. Sad that Spotify does not publish the source code as well.

I am so very happy with your firmware. I was about to return my player for its near uselessness until I stumbled upon your site.

Would implementing Tor with selectable exit nodes be a possibility? That would allow access to geo-restricted streams, such as BBC iPlayer (which would be next on my wish list).

Thanks again for the great work.

Very smooth, painless install of 1.42 on my Xoro HMT350.  You're doing a great job on this firmware, after 2 weeks it looks like we won't be going back to the original.

Noticed a small "bugette" with UPnP discovery: the  friendly name of one of our UPnP servers contained a "&" and consequently didn't appear in the list of UPnP servers.  I've removed the "&" and it's fine now but I'd like to put it back in again some time.

Cheers.

Any chance to translate AccuWeather terms like "Clear", "SSE", "Rising" and add a °C/°F (degree) sign after the two temperatures?

Yes, but it is not there in 1.43 yet. The texts are actually provided by Accuweather via XML files. So I first need to collect all possible texts.

William: tip for possible next version:  fs_fwrec automaticaly removed from SD card after the upgrade?, now i had to remove the card after the reboot and remove the file(s) manual.

Added to the new loader that gets installed with 1.43
Note that this means that the upgrade to 1.43 will not remove fs_fwrec yet because that is still done over the old loader.

Quote:
On the whole the new firmware like a lot, but there are some observations (device Mediabox 135):
1. Russian characters are not displayed in hours and in the files on the SD card.
2. The alarm does not include the off device.
3. Do not turn off playback FM in timer mode "to go to the clock screen".
4. Not shows the hours when unplugging the Internet radio in timer mode "to go to the clock screen".
5. If you removed the volume of the radio, an alarm will turn on the device without a sound.
Thank you!

1. fixed in 1.43
2. Not sure what you mean.
The sleep timer has two options, when the countdown reaches zero it can power off the device or it can go the the night clock.
The Alarm will work if you have the device on the clock screen..
The Alarm will work if you turned off the device (it will wake up)
Note that the Alarm is improved in 1.43. there is now an Alarm info screen that shows the settings.
3. Fixed in 1.43
4. Should also be fixed in 1.43
5. The Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 volume level can be set individually. To set the alarm volume you will get a screen just like to set the brightness. So even when you turn the volume off, the alarm will still make some noise.. (unless you set the alarm volume level to 0.. )

On my device it has a very annoying bug: Alarm 1 cannot be turned off: It says Alarm1 [on]. BTW: pressing ok again and again will alternate through deactivating ... activating etc, but the result is always: Alarm1 [on] and never off.

Hi, the alarm should turn off. When you get the message about deactivated it is off. The "Alarm1 [on] is incorrectly displayed.
Anyway, 1.43 has an info screen that shows the exact status of the two alarms and the real time clock hardware. This shows you the exact date and time the alarm will go off.

One other thing I noticed:
Not every time, but quite often, when entering myfavorites -> Internet radio, I can use the arrow to go up and down, but trying to select a station jumps back to position 1 of the list. At that point all I can do is go up and down. Exit etc and even turning the device off via remote control do not work any more at that point.

Just to make sure, nothing went wrong during flashing, I flashed the device again. However, it still behaves the same.

No need to reflash. I have not experienced the problem you describe but will take a look at the code and see if there is anything that can go wrong.. if so, I will put extra checks.

Because of these two things I would like to do one of the following
a.) if you have a pre 1.43 Version to test: can you provide it for me - I am more than willing to test
b.) if this is not the case: is it save to revert back to Version 1.41 and leave loader V2 installed?

Wait for 1.43, the aim is to have it in the next few days.

Would it be possible to add a graphic equaliser to future software updates?
I find the units lack bass response even when used with a good amplifier.
If an equaliser involves too much work how about a "Bass Boost" function?

I am checking into this.
So far I have no solution.
Mplayer equalizer fnctionality is too slow. Sound is more silent than playing
Also the OSS kernel driver behind the mixer does not support Bass/Treble.

The Xoro has an equalizer but I do not hear a difference and other than changing button text (normal/pop/jazz/bass) I do not see any code being triggered when I debugged the Xoro software.
Is there anyone here who has experiences with the Xoro equalizer?
(or other suggestions are also very welcome)

Hi,
first of all: thanks a lot for all the great work you do. Your firmware is a huge improvement to the one delivered.

I installed FW 1.42 - which went nicely.

On my device it has a very annoying bug: Alarm 1 cannot be turned off: It says Alarm1 [on]. When I press ok, it says: deactivating ... but right afterwards it still says Alarm1 [on] - and indeed it will ring on the set time and there is nothing I can do to stop it. William,

Would it be possible to add a graphic equaliser to future software updates?
I find the units lack bass response even when used with a good amplifier.

Installed the new version and it works perfectly.

Many thanks for the good work AGAIN !!

1 spelling mistake found.  during the upgrade in the new loader V2.0 it does tell you the option of two files.

1 should be with the .upd     ext, which is NOT the case at this moment     Cosmetic only as any user will push the OK button  anyway

Xenta KMP510.  Installed 1.41 with loader 2 a week or so ago all worked OK.

Downloaded 1.42 to an SD card and the update seemed to go OK.  The radio reported that the update was OK and it was rebooting but on reboot the display cycles around the icons (as normal) and then stops on the Internet Radio icon.  The SD CARD still contains fs_fwrec but it does not trigger the recovery.  I tried rebooting without the SD card also tried power up whilst and hold down the outer buttons but the display just hangs on Xenta.

Are there any more options or is it time to get a new radio

1. Is it possible to add such a feature?: When you select Media Player > SD card, show the "Resume playback from the last position? Yes/ No". This function is useful for listening to audio books. Or add bookmarks.

Yes, technically it should be possible. I do not know yet how. I will look into it.

2. Is it possible to eliminate the absence of synchronization of audio and video playback movies with SD-card?

We use MPlayer. In theory all features of MPlayer can be used.
We do have a limitation on CPU speed though. So some video types simply cost too much calculation power to get audio and video synchronized properly.
I will check what we can do.

No problem to add it if I can find out how to connect/login/browse etc.
Live365 and Radiotime are sorted out and just need to be wired in.

Not using i18n. I just use the language files which are plain text files. These are loaded into an array which is used throughout the program code.
Any string you have that is not yet in there is welcome. I know there are still a few that have to be converted from hardcoded to the text files.

Nice job on finding and listing these issues
The alarm issue is resolved. The upcoming version has a new Alarm info screen where all alarm settings can be reviewed.
It displays if alarm1 or 2 is on/off at what time, how often etc. It also lists the current state of the real time clock hardware.
So you can see the exact date and time the alarm will go off.

There were some issues with the sleep timer and going to night clock. I will check it again.

Yeah, this is tricky to set properly. I have changed it so that you can see the volume level.

white (all colours) = all days
yellow (nearest of white) = all days minus Sunday (Monday - Saturday)
green (nearest of yellow) = all days minus week end (Monday - Friday)
blue (nearest of green) = Only 2 days (Saturday - Sunday)
red (nearest of blue) = One shot (next day only)
gray (near of black = no color) = disabled (only to use for icons not for text of course)

I can also just increase the font so that the next alarm and sleeptimer countdown are the same size as the date.
Changing the color of the icon is not easy to do. But I can do your color suggestion on the text.

Hello William,

first of all: nice job one more time.

Updated from 1.41 to 1.42 last saturday morning.

Here maybe a little bug?!
By selecting settings/autopower_off_sleeptimer/sleeptimer_action: Night_Clock, Arnova is switching to night_clock (brightness has to be adjusted before!) but the unit is not switching off, radio is not getting silent and is not switching off!

Yes,
It works if you have the player screen. If you moved to news/weather/twitter/stocks/clock mode.. then it does not turn off the sound.
Fixing it now.

William,

well done.

Two issues:

- Vodcast leaves scrambled screen after Video is finished.
- Would it be possible to download the latest Vodcast not the last played one when starting up with "play last video"? Example: "Tagesschau in 100 Minuten". The latest news would be the interesting one, not the last one watched...

Firmware 1.42 has been released

Good idea.. now is an option in the FM settings screen..

Every time you turn the FM-radio shows "connect the antenna." Is it possible to remove it?

Thanks again, worked a treat. I had no idea that was a scale volume menu, it was set at 00 (loud). I thought it was an initial volume setting when entering play mode.

Go to settings, player setiings and set the volume preset.. This will make it possible to go really soft or really loud..

Just one more thing Penbex. On the Otek 510 unit, the very first notch of volume in your firmware is way too loud for quiet listening. Is this a software scaling issue or is it the hardware? Reducing the sensitivity at the low end of volume would be really benefical.

Cheers

Thanks Penbex, appreciate the reply. Awesome work you are doing, very grateful indeed.

Hi, to use myfavorites in the most easy way, go to settings and select your user name from the massive list. This only needs to be done once. Then use the myfavorites button to go to your favorites directly. The little bar top, left on the taskbar is the volume indicator. The alarm on/off bug is known. To get the most out of the remote.. Go to settings and set the remote control to extended.. Recovery mode files have not been released yet.. They will be later..

Hi,

Carried over from the 1.41 thread as requested:

***Hi,

Having major issues with new firmware 1.42. Just installed the loader v2 and firmware on a brand new OTEK IPTV510 KMP510 with original V1.7 firmware.

Loader then Firmware went in fine, but some of the menus go in circles, and when the "Internet Radio" is clicked, it comes up on the left with "16 entries" and the list is the same as in the settings screen (Network options etc). Same thing is happening on the "Internet TV", "Shoutcast", "Podcast", "Vodcast". Can't seem to get to any content, just dead menus coming up identical to the settings menu.

Also, I can't seem to enter "Myfavourites user account" and some of the options just do nothing in various menus.

Wifi connection is definately up and ok.

Something very wrong with this. Any assistance would be great, as cannot use the unit now. *******************

Ok, so after about 15 reboots, a mix of hot and cold, the firmware appears to be working fairly normally now. I can access radio, tv, weather etc. WIFI was up/available the whole time during testing, and I left it for 20+ minutes between each reboot to pull any server data it needed to. It just kind of sprang into life right at the end and began working correctly.

Noticed a couple of bugs during the testing worth sharing:

- Internet radio > my favourites brings up a massive list of users and favourites, whereas it should jump to my username fav's? The my favourites icon on home screen jumps correctly. I have selected my username in the settings menu.
- Internet TV > my favourites: as above
- Podcast > My favourites: as above
- Vodcast > My favurites: as above
- Playing internet radio, click Sub menu on the extended remote and page with a list (cnn etc) comes up ok, click submenu again and unit goes back to radio but hangs on the blue progress spinner, remote useless, reboot required.
- LOADER: installing recovery mode fails, it asks for files on the SD card and cant find them. I put all the loader and firmware files on it, cannot find what it's looking for and falls over.
- Alarm 1 cannot be indicated to be off in the menu (known I think )

And question, what is the progress type bar at the very top left of the screen for? It seems to change every so often. Sorry buy I can't find any feature docs on the firmware.

Thanks for this project, really appreciate it and will donate when I can

Regards,
6J6A.

I mean we have an menu in settings "Date and Time".  Click on it brings an new menu with four points: Internet-time synchronize now; synchronize Internet yes/no; set date and time manuel and timezone.

I click date and time manuel and get only "Set Time:"

In that window i became four lines; first is Title text "Set Time:"; next is the actual time; next is an row with ten diggits and next with tree points as OK and an point to format hours and minutes and last to Delete some diggit!

I click OK after some correction and be back! I never see an window to adjust the date and thats the point i mean.

(ok, i can take dropbear and set the date we make it in all linux systems but thats not the point)

Yes, this is on my "todo list" I am working on it but it was not finished yet.
The idea is that the you can use the FAV button on the device and that it adds the favorites on the server as well. So you can use both.
Organizing the favorite list is also something I have planned.

There is no automatic screensaver mode yet.

What do you mean exactly with that?
If you go to the clock screen it will tell you the current date, current day and current time.
If the Alarm is set it will show this via the icons. It will also tell you which of the alarms will be first to go off.

If you go to "Synchronize Internet Time Now" it will take the time from the Internet and display "The system time has been synchronized".
What I can change is that when you do the synchronisation, that it tells you the time it received. Would that help?

What I also can do is, in the Alarm screen.. you now can choose between Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 to change the settings
I can add a third option, "Alarm Info" which will display a screen with the date and time alarm 1 and 2 are set to (if set) and which one the system will handle first. Would that help?

By selecting settings/autopower_off_sleeptimer/sleeptimer_action: OFF works everything fine, unit is switching off as set before. Compared to selecting sleeptimer in version 1.41 before, is now in 1.42 much more convenient to set the timer while listening to the radio.

Here maybe a little bug?!
By selecting settings/autopower_off_sleeptimer/sleeptimer_action: Night_Clock, Arnova is switching to night_clock (brightness has to be adjusted before!) but the unit is not switching off, radio is not getting silent and is not switching off!

Due to the update from 1.41 to 1.42 some previous setting had to be set again, like user for the favorites, type of remote controller, timezone... and you have to go through the list.  Now it works very nice! Sleep timer setting  is also much nicer, I can go directly while listening to the radio. Thanks a lot William!!! Great work! I'll  send you a little donation 2. time now and hope to find some friends to follow me...  You really deserve it!

Alarm is  indeed a tricky feature: As said above, the english text of Alarm 1 [Set] does not change, whether this Alarm is set or not. You can only see by the pop up show (Alarm activated/Alarm deactivated) how the status is. My wife already hates the device because the alarm started to go off on sunday, despite beeing turned of.
Can the alarm function be disabled at all?

Is it a bug or a feature ?

Alarm 1 i have set on seven at five workdays. It fires at Saturday, it fires up on Sunday. Alarm 2 is set on ten o clock on weekday. Its the same wen i changed Alarm 1 and 2.

Another one: clicking "NFS Network Settings" does not do anything - no text toggling, no sub-menu shown...

The sleep timer actions ("PowerOff" and "Go to night clock") are not ready for i18n as well.

Any chance to translate AccuWeather terms like "Clear", "SSE", "Rising" and add a °C/°F (degree) sign after the two temperatures?

I agree.. and indeed there are still some texts that are hardcoded that need to be available in the language file. Will work on that.
Also found the alarm1 toggle bug.. luckily it does function.. just the displayed text is wrong.

Me too!
I mean, I also updated successfully and I support the automatic fs_rec file deletion as well.

When playing around with the menus to improve the German language file, I encountered a small bug:
If you toggle alarm 1 on/off, it correctly shows the message "Alarm 1 activated" or "Alarm 1 deactivated", but the settings text is always "Alarm 1 [Yes]" (or the corresponding translation). The text does not toggle from "[Yes]" to "[No]" or vice versa.

BTW: I found no string in the language file for the "Alarm 1 activated" or "Alarm 1 deactivated" messages...

If you enter the settings menu (the icon to reach it is correctly titled "Einstellungen" in German), the icon is displayed, but the title is "Settings" (not translated). I cannot find any way to adjust this in the language file.

Successfully upgraded to version 1.42. William thanks!

Reported Bugs (not yet fixed):
-

Known Issues:
- TV-Out is not working properly, this will be addressed as soon as possible.
Unlike the official firmware, technically it is possible to drive an external screen with 720x573 or 720x482 resolution.
It will take some time to get it sorted out and pull the most out of the hardware.
- The devices are clocked at 378 Mhz. According to the Ingenic datasheet, the CPU can operate at 400 Mhz.
Overclocking should also work up to ~430 Mhz. So I will try to get the CPU a bit faster.

Planned for a future update:
Fix TVOut
Browse via Genre when browsing TV/Radio lists. (already supported on the firmware, needs a change at the server)
Previous/Next radio/tv station stream with left/right buttons while playing
Improve NFS support
Add a Screensaver.
