Topic: HOWTO: firmware update your radio

Sorry I was guilty of sending you E-mails directly recently without viewing the forum seeing your request to use the forum.

Good news and thought I would post here if it proves useful to others (although I would only do this as a last resort). The previously mentioned Xenta  has just been gathering dust since the Chinese network ceased and I was unable to install Listenlive Loader. This was due to not enough space (when trying to load via PC), which is assumed was due to bad blocks taking up all the space. I was not clever enough to do a telnet connection. So with my basic knowledge of Mass Storage devices (Xenta connects to PC as Mass Storage)  I decided to reformat the Drive (The Xenta radio) and whilst I was expecting a 'Bricked' device - the menu screen was still there! and it allowed me to transfer the loader (there was now enough space) - then when through the routine loading firmware - and SUCCESS !

I have picked up another Xenta 3.5 inch TV/RADIO on original software 1.7 . Following the Listenlive.nl guide I  plugged into PC via usb drive -(Had to switch on radio for PC to find it as mass storage) -I  tried to place the Loader 2 file into drive created (G) but says not enough space?? (although no actual files shown in drive) - I did the right click - properties and it states FAT 32 Mass storage 33.5mb used only 696kb free? and the loader file is 2966kb - any ideas? the Xenta is still working on original software - I have done a factory reset - and checked there is no media files on internal storage . Is it that the bug /errors has completely filled the memory and its close to failing ?

Hello,
I have heard of a RM002 PO1171 once before.
It seems that the Chinese manufacturer added a few "repairs" / "refurbished" models with the big batch of PO1171 RM003 they supplied to Aldi.
It is not clear if these models are closer to the PO1119 RM002 or PO1171 RM003.
You can try the PO1119 loader.. if that fails we could dump some info from the device to see what it really is..

Thanks, that indeed worked!

Quote:Hi, I tried the firmware upgrade from the loader file Envivo PO1171 RM003, but that didn't work. I got the message that my hardware was not compliant.
that is correct because I use the Envivo PO1171 RM002, but I can't find that loader file. Which loader file to use instead?

I feel like an idiot asking such simple questions.  I am really surprised someone else has not asked this before so I must be really missing something?

Anyway, I am in the midst of installing the LL firmware.  I have installed the V2 loader and have restarted the Otek with the text mode system.  Selecting the first option to do a "Regular Firmware update from SD card", the Otek displays another screen full of information reminding me I should have an SD card inserted containing the new firmware, a file named "llfirmware-update.bin".   That is the V2 loader asking for this file.  If I press OK here it will begin the firmware update.  But I decided not to do that yet because I am not sure I have the right file here.

The new firmware file I downloaded from this web site is LLFirm_V1.49_All_3.5inch_models.zip and that zip file contains several files including a 28MB file named llfirmware.upd.  Because of the size of the file I assume this is the actual firmware file to be copied to the SD card?  But nowhere in this downloaded zip file can I find a file named llfirmware-update.bin, the file the loader is asking for.

So, either the LLFirm_V1.49_All_3.5inch_models.zip file does not include the correct file, or the Loader V2 instructions on the screen are incorrect, referring to the wrong filename.

Please can you confirm it is OK to proceed with the update using the llfirmware.upd file on the SD card.

From what I can find on this site, recovery mode will only work with 1.47 but can I safely assume that was the current version when that was written and it will work with 1.49 and 1.5 when that is released?  And the information refers to loader V3, but the loader available in Files seems to be V2?

I could not see the recovery mode software under the Files tab, so forgive my ignorance please and tell me where I can download that.

And finally, is this the correct installation sequence?
1. Install recovery mode
2. Install loader V2
3. Install Listenlive 1.49

Hello,

The right order is to first update the device with the listenlive loader.
Then upgrade to the 1.49 firmware. This will also update the loader to V3.
Next you can install the recovery mode which will work regardless of the firmware but you need the V3 loader to install the recovery. 1.47 and higher install the V3 loader.
The recovery files are rather large and are available through the Mega service. Here is the URL: https://mega.co.nz/#!CNgFGaQZ!f5Z3XRrgsRBYHzP0-J3lkiP4I5pJK0rGa2PFqptG4ic

About to install Listenlive on my new Otek and have some questions about recovery mode please.

1. Install recovery mode
2. Install loader V2
3. Install Listenlive 1.49

How hard can it be to use the "files" tab on the top of the screen.
Then select the right area.

Hi.
First time user here. From what I have read, this firmware looks great.

My device have been ordered, and should be delivered in the next day or so (Otek IPTV510). I am just getting the files and process ready, so I can install straight away.
Can you please confirm I have understood the inital firmware install process correctly?

1. Install Loader V2 for Otek via SD card. Is this done simply by restarting the device with the file on the SD card? Should I keep the FW on or off the SD card also?

2. Install FW 1.49 for 3.5" LCD device via SD card. (I assume same process to install this as per the Loader)

Is that the entire process to get you firmware running? Have I missed anything?

Thanks!

EDIT: I worked it out. The readme file on the loader zip had the full install details. Thanks anyway.

You are in the forum about SkyTC based devices.
SkyTC is a manufacturer from China.
Your DNT is build by Penbex from Taiwan.

For the SkyTC devices I have created the Listenlive firmware, written from scratch. The SkyTC devices that can use this firmware all have a large LCD color screen (3.5 inch, 4.3 inch or 7 inch)
For the Penbex devices I have created modified firmware (based on the original firmware) that lets the device work with our database. Since Penbex went bankrupt in 2011 their server is not updated anymore and often not available.

...the Link isnt working...

And I am not sure, if the new listenlive-firmware 1.49 also works with my dnt-IP-Micro.
I have been searching your forum, but didnt find a 100% message stating it should work or not...

Thank you

Do you want more joy out of your Internet Radio and TV device? get the ListenLive firmware!
Compared to the original firmware, the listenlive firmware offers many additional features including news, weather forcasts, twitter, stock market data, direct access to some of the top content providers, full control over screen brightness, volume presets, auto play at startup, sleep timer, many alarm presets, a failsafe mode and access to over 100.000 Internet Radio, TV, Podcast, Vodcast and Shoutcast links from the Listenlive database.
We now even have experimental recording options. Also you can manage your favorites via our webserver and see them on your device and add or edit any missing or broken station you can find.

Note: Remember that updating the firmware is not without risk. The device might become useless when the flash process fails. In case of problems you can contact me via mail.
Note2: It turns out that the manufacturer has decided to not include the recovery mode that is present on some models. Obviously this makes it harder to recover from a failed flash proces (it is not impossible though!)
The new Loader v3.0 is able to install the recovery mode to devices that do not have it. Obviously you need additional files for this. These files are available for download. Check the recovery thread to see how to do it and what you need.

Loading Listenlive firmware: To load firmware 1.4x you need the Listenlive Loader with at least v2.0 installed on your device already.
If you have Listenlive Loader v1, first install the new loader (any version will work but it is best to get the one that matches your model) then update to the 1.4x firmware.
If you are still on the original firmware you first need to install the "loader" firmware.
The loader firmware has to be loaded as a regular firmware update. Thus via SD (official firmwares 1.86 and up support SD cards) or from the Internal flash memory in case you have an older original firmware like v1.7.
Once you have installed the loader firmware and the system reboots you get into a text mode screen. This screen has a few options, the main use is to flash your device with a new firmware.

If you are using the 1.41 or higher firmware, put the contents of the 1.47 archive on a SD card and reboot your device to get into the loader and perform the update with option 1.

Note: to update from the original firmware, for each model a specific loader is required! If your loader is not available yet it most likely will be soon, just post a message with your device details. Trying other loaders is useless as that will not work!

Upgrading from an original firmware to the Loader should not take long. Whatever you do, do not cut power during the update.
Upgrading from the loader to the Listenlive firmware takes a bit longer since much more data has to be written. Again do not cut power during the process.

Note: In some cases, the Arnova update process seems to take a long time (35 minutes!) Do not interrupt this process or you might end up with a dead device!!

Important: Do not interrupt the update process, if you do it will most likely kill your device

To download any files from this server, you need to be logged in. The firmware is available HERE
