The procedure is exactly the same as with the original firmware.
I am working on the firmware file right now. The modifications are in. Now have to repack everything, make the correct file and test it.
Once everything is done I will post it online in the Penbex firmware download section.

Perfect.. this means that we can safely flash the modified firmware.
If flashing goes really bad and the device does not start anymore, we can use the recovery procedure.
The recovery procedure requires the use of a USB A <-> USB A cable (both sides the same plug)
The device is connected to the pc as flash disk and we can transfer the firmware like that.
The exact procedure is described on the forum.

Can you test the following:
1. Power off the Machine. (remove power from the mains socket)
2. Press the [UP] key and hold. (Note: some models appear to use the [Left] key)
3. Power on the system again. (plug power back into the mains socket)
4. You should see [USB upgrade] on the screen.
5. Release the [UP] key once you see that screen.
What we need to see is the [USB upgrade] notification.
This process is triggered by powering up the device (from disconnected power cable) usually with one single button pressed.
On most Penbex models this was the UP button. On some it was the LEFT button, but there is no restriction to what button (back/menu/standby etc.) they used for this.

Thank you for your reply. Is there any way to change the server without installing your framework? I have pretty good debian server so can i use it instead original World Radio? I have some linux, and php/mysql experience. Or I just have to wait?

Hello,
The Konig is a device made by a Taiwanese company called "Penbex" they went bankrupt over a year ago.
The original firmware that is on the radios connects to a database that is on some webspace reserved by Penbex.
Since the company is gone, there have not been any updates to this database.
In fact, it is likely that the database will be completely gone soon.
In that case your Penbex based radio will not be able to get any station lists.
I have made modified firmwares for Penbex radios. This modification lets the radio connect to our database.
However, the firmware is for each Penbex radio different. So far I have made versions for a number of models but not yet for the Konig.
I hope to have some time to do this soon.
So in short, the KW-1004 firmware can not run on the Konig and is rejected by the upgrade process.

No, sorry. The Listenlive firmware only works on devices originating from SkyTC.

The official "worldstation" webpage and database are still functional.
However, Taiwanese Penbex seems to have closed their company website.
In the past they had some of the GPL code on their corporate site.
After some searching I also found that one of their founders has started a new company and works on a new project.
So it appears that Penbex is slowly going down and it might just be a matter of time before they also shut down the database (which would kill all devices without our modified firmware).
Regarding the models:
They have pretty much generic KW-1004 model which is sold under various brand names. All these models have a tiny difference in the bootloaded and due to that do not accept firmware for the alternative brand names. Some models are very old and did not get firmware updates for a long time (and thus many bugs), some are a bit newer and thus have some bugs fixed. This is why there was the release of a generic bootloader. So that everyone could enjoy the latest fixed. Of course combined with the use of our database so you can actually influence the contents.
Besides the generic models there were a few non-standard models. These include the IPMicro. The differences were caused by other memory chips and in case of the IPMicro difference in front panel key drivers.
There is some good news though. Is soon as I have some spare time (right now a bit busy with the SkyTC firmware) I will toss together a version 2 firmware for IPMicro!

Hi, the firmware subject is not really clear to me. As far as I remember there is a "generic" firmware that should load into any device. I've got an IPMicro, but i couldn't sort out, where or which this generic firmware is, I cannot load any 2.x firmware.
Could someone explain that to me?
What can I do at the moment to upgrade my IPMicro to a 2.x firmware?
Thank you,
Sammy.

New firmware is available now in the download section!
This firmware is for KW-1004 based devices (Neon, Proline, Goodmans, Watson, etc. etc.)
For other models like the Centrios you will have to do an additional update. Contact me if you want to participate in testing this...
