Topic: New firmware for Centrios and Akira branded Penbex radios

The 1004 generic firmware file works! Looks like it is a single file upgrade for me.

Thanks.

You can upgrade using the generic KW1004 firmware.

In order to update the Centrios or the Akira you need to do a two part upgrade. First you need to upgrade with this file. After loading this upgrade you can upgrade with the regular 2.0.0.18 file that you can find here.

Important note: Do *NOT* load this file on other brands than the: Centrios 1315117, Akira, Neon, Watson, KW-1004, Proline, Goodmans and direct compatibles.

If you are not sure that you have the correct radio or if you want to participate in testing or finding out if there is an update for your model then contact me.

Hi All, A newbie here.

Firmware update failed.

Device is Centrios 1315117. Bought pre-owned. Previous owner says he "did an upgrade", and the internet radio does work. I'm not too familiar with how it works, but it seems like - maybe - 1 in 10 stations is actually working. Mostly, they time out, or just hang there trying to fetch a playlist, etc.

I then decided to perform an update, and especially since there is a new firmware version out.

Both files loaded to 256MB SD card, formatted as MS-DOS FAT, on a Macintosh.
1) KW-1004-colilo
2) KW-1315117-2.0.0.23

However, I also see two other files on the card:
3) ._KW-1004-colilo
4) ._KW-1315117-2.0.0.23
No idea if this is causing the problem.

I first select file #1. The process appears to proceed correctly, except that it takes maybe 5 seconds. Should it be this quick?
Then I select file #2. Again, the process is over too quickly.
I then perform a system reset.

Looking at the information screen:
[ General Info ]
F/W Ver: 2.0.0
uP Ver: 0x25

[ Add Station Page ]
http://www.listenlive.nl

[ Detail ]
OS Ver:
KW-1004-2.0.0.18 beta
build 01/11/11-1822

Since the new firmware I am trying to load is 23, and the device is still at 18 - the update failed.
Could anyone offer any suggestions as to why it may have failed?

Thanks.

Check the system information screen. It should display the listenlive URL after an upgrade.

Hi, I'm new to upgrading as well. Thanks for the detailed info on the upgrades, which I believe I've done finally. Now I do not seem to be able to add any new stations from the internet radio part of the menu. Shoutcast says service not available, which I understand doesn't exist anymore, but even the World Station list is gone, it just hangs on "getting genres" then eventually times out.

There is no add live station option I can see as one poster suggested.

Any assistance appreciated, thanks.

Hi William!

My Centrios 1315117 has firmware kw-1315117-1.0.3.33 12/17/07 - 1742

It doesn't update with this two part upgrade (BTW the link of the second part is inexisting ...).

I assume the firmware is too old to accept this one. Where can I get a mid-range version to act as an intermediate step?

Regards,

DM1950

Thanks so much! It seems that I had updated the bootloader to generic KW1004, which is why I couldn't load the Centrios version. I switched to the generic 1004 firmware and now everything works perfectly. Thanks for giving me back my radio

No, you are not on very old firmware.
You either need to update with KW-1315117-2.0.0.23.zip
or in case you updated the bootloader to generic KW1004 you need to update with KW-1004-2.0.0.23.zip
Use a SD card or USB stick with max 2 gb and fat32 formatting.

~William

Hopefully that's the problem - I guess I'd just need to add an extra step and upgrade to an earlier firmware first?

Currently my Centrios is:

F/W Ver: 2.0.0
uP Ver: 0x25

KW-1315117-2.0.0.15

Thanks so much for your help.

You dont need to update the bootloader. you can just grab the latest centrios firmware.
However, in some cases the current firmware is too old to update directly to the latest firmware. What is your current firmware version?

My problem is my Centrios just won't load the new bootloader. I've put the file on a USB pen drive, it shows up on my Centrios screen but I click on it and my machine immediately reboots without updating the bootloader. I assume I'm doing something wrong?

Hello,

If you do the above 2 step update your Centrios becomes a generic KW1004 as the bootloader is changed.
After updating the bootloader you need to update with the latest KW1004 firmware... that should work fine.

I must be doing something wrong but darned if I can figure it out.

I upgraded my Centrios 1315117 using the 2-step method outlined above (with the newest upgrade)- even used a tiny little 256 MB USB stick so I knew it was compatible.

It simply won't upgrade. My info still tells me I'm running KW-1315117-2.0.0.15 and none of the stations work. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Ok

Is it possible to drive Akira radio by HTTP commands ?

remote control by pc for akira/centrios devices?
Not that I know of.

Hello everybody,

This firmware include the remote controle by PC ?

Thanks for your reply.

Check lockers and drawers or ask friends for an old USB stick max 2 gb.
The only reason why the device can not see the upgrade on a USB stick is because the stick is too new/modern.
Remember that the hardware was designed 10 years ago and that at the time the high speed usb sticks you can buy now did not exist back then.

Hi,

Very nice firmware, the ability to keep listening on the radio station while switching, more stable in reading USB, great bunch of nice features!

However the shoutcast server remain not accessible from mine...

Any fix planned?

Nice tease!

Thanks for helping to make this hobby so much fun!

The most important fix is shoutcast working again. Also a new way of how stations are sorted (i need a bit of time to get the Genres working properly.
and there will be more soon....

Great work William! Works perfectly on my Centrios.
Any chance you can post a list of features/fixes that are included in this release?
