There is an issue at present.

Either listenlive.nl has changed its IP address or TurtleBeach have changed their DNS - whichever it is the end result is that Audiotrons cannot connect at present.
Am going to go through old details to work out which it is.

Paulwebster: Thanks for your quick reply! I think you're right, it is an SMB issue, apparently even version 2 is automatically turned off on this NAS. I have discovered a way to turn on V1 and V2, but I am reluctant to turn on V1 because everyone seems to recommend against it. I'm not sure if it's worth it to me to have a vulnerable NAS just to be able to stream to the Audiotron from it. But thanks for helping me figure out the issue!

I have not checked the details of that NAS ... but the most likely reason is it not supporting the very old version of Windows networking used by the Audiotron. Check the NAS settings to see if it can support V1 of the Windows SMB protocol. Note - the old version is often disabled because of security weaknesses.

I just picked up an old Audiotron and it works great with everything on my network except my NAS which is a Buffalo ls-wxl184 which for some reason the Audiotron gets an "Access Denied" message when it tries to access the NAS host. I'm just wondering if anyone has managed to get this particular model of NAS to work with the Audiotron, or if anyone has any suggestions on what I could try that might get it working.

From your Windows 10 machine can you see the drive contents when you use File Explorer to view

Some old NAS drives can be connected to a PC as an external drive.. what brand/model did you find?
Alternatively you can probably also use some routers that have similar support or a Pi with a disc or a stick..

I could be wrong but I think the limit is 1000, at least that is where it stopped searching at.  A Jazz station I listen to, WBGO was not in the 1000 stations which were pulled down. 

I went to the Jazz & Blues section and saw that there are many more stations listed than than shown from the list downloaded.  The downloaded full list may be shorter, or it only grabs say 10 or so from each category?

The initial set of stations is made from a static file - so yes ... as stations change their stream URLs this static list will have less and less working stations.
However, you can make you personalised list from the full set of stations in the database to replace the static list.

Changing the static list to get it to be dynamically updated (and larger) would be a great thing to have - but the time and effort required is probably out of proportion to the number of users (especially as they can maintain their own list on-line here).
However, I have asked the listenlive owner to see if he is willing and able to spend the time to do it.

Indulge me with your patience if you will, as a noobie to the Audiotron. 

I have 3 AT's that I resurrected from storage recently, after having installed a NAS on my local net,
in hopes that I could use them to play my music on my local-net.  All bought used, previous history
unknown to me.  Delighted to find that Turtle-Bay was redirecting to a new server and that radio
might again be a possibility !  But:

2 of the 3 find the UPNP server on the NAS and load up the 2200+ MP3's there.  Neither of those
AT's find the 79 stations, nor display the [NET] entry on the menu line on the AT between [GENRE]
and [LIST].  So far I'm out of luck getting these units to receive Internet Radio, accordingly.  Maybe
they were reset to local station lists by previous owners ?  These two are firmware revs 3.2.25 and
3.2.5 respectively. 

The 3rd AT finds the "Turtle-Bay relocated server" and gets me the 79 stations just fine, so I know
my local-net is reaching, and should produce it for the other 2 AT's mentioned above.  But this 3rd
one is apparently pointed at some previous owner's host for the local playing of MP3's.  This host
info survives full power-fail and reboot, and I've yet to find a way to repoint it at my own NAS or
any of the other potential hosts on my local net.  This one is firmware rev 3.1.1

I've tried reconfiguring all the settings available to me on the 2 ATs that don't produce access to the
Turtle Bay server (or the [NET] entry line to access Internet Radio, via the menu on the AT itself)
to the settings on the one AT that works to produce the 79 stations (except, of course, the local
IP of the AT itself, which has to be unique on the local-net) but still no joy. 

I tried logging into the AT via my web browser and am challenged for a user name and passwd.
Somewhere in the TurtleBay info on their website it said the default passwd was Godzilla so I
tried that with various possible user names to no avail.  So I'm locked out of those functions for
the time being.  I tried the Factory Settings Reset, and still, after repowering and reboot, the
pointer to the previous owner's server remains for the local shares.  It seems to even access
his server out there on the net, apparently still up and running, but without a valid share.  I can't
seem to get rid of it !!  Help !

Can any kindly soul out there give me some guidance as to how to get the [NET] menu item to
re-appear on the 2 AT's which aren't finding the "Turtle-Bay relocated server" and/or how to repoint
the other AT to my local net's hosts including my NAS, instead of the IP/filename of the previous
owner ?

Or point me to a forum where these questions would be more appropriately addressed ?   

Any help vastly appreciated, and kudos to those who made the effort to get the server support
up and working again.  I -really- like these Audiotron units, but better still if I could get full
function back on all three of them !! 

My first post....this is GREAT!  I have two Audiotrons and now I can conveniently use them again.  However, I have a bit of a problem and I hope someone can give me some suggestions to get AT2 working.  I have reversed the setting to use the local file....http://192.168.1.21/localtr.asp so Use a local file for Turtle radio list      Enabled  as you can see it is NOT enabled AND I did a hard power switch reboot after saving these changes.  From Settings/Network I can ping a host on the outside of my LAN so I believe my internet connection is working...I am getting past the router etc.  I have gone to settings/Internet radio checked  Internet Radio AND put in my username from this site for TURTLE RADIO ID and SAVE.  When I Check For New Stations I get:

Standard there is a preset of these 79 stations.
You can override this preset by selecting your own favorites and thus creating your own list.

I would like to echo the appreciation expressed here for keeping these units alive!  I purchased mine from a Thrift Store "on a whim" and was initially disappointed that the hosting had apparently been discontinued for the Audiotron.  It did not take very long though to find this site and get it up and running again.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents to say THANK YOU for this great support of an outstanding product. Audiotron was a pioneer in making digital library's available on home audio gear. Popcorn Hour and Boxee Box, but for simply playing audio well, nothing else competes.  Bulding "favorites" by copying over from

Sorry, I should have put this in my previous post...question...with the list above, there are, for example for Radio paradise 192k, 128k and 64k streams, I have never figured out how to get above the 128k link, how do I tell the AT to use the higher sample rate? it just always defaults to the 128k stream. Hi guys....stirling effort to resurrect the AT....although I have been using the local file trick for years I just defaulted the unit and it found your DNS and away it went(don't forget to save your player id). However one of my favourite stations is Radio paradise and they changed their stream to 48k rather than 44.1 and the AT plays it back slow http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/audiotron/message/1445 is the link I have found to sort it so when you update the txt file could you please flick the following data in? http://stream-tx1.radioparadise.com:9048 (might need /listen.pls at the end) this is the link that Bill at RP has given for a 44.1 stream. Not sure where the original "default" list came from. All I need to make a new default list is some channels to put on it..

If you want you can make a list and give it to me, I will then set it as default or perhaps there is already something created by one of the Audiotron users that can be stored as a default list.

Usually the listen live feature is a link to an embedded media player on the website that you are visiting.
Sometimes this is a link to a standard stream url that you can cut and paste into our database. Then it will work on the audiotron.
But that link could also trigger some embedded flash player with-without DRM. The Audiotron can not play such streams.

I rescanned the internet radio again and now come up with the 79 stations mentioned in earlier posts. I tried some and a few worked and many did not. It looks like I don't need the new procedure as it appears that it requires no changes to work.

Hello, I've been an Audiotron user for many years and just went out to check on any new info regarding the Internet Radio functionality and found your very recent posts regarding this subject. It appears that between the October timeframe and today there was a fix that made the DNS manipulation unnecessary (I think). I would appreciate it if you could repost the most current configuration steps based on this change. I have used a local file and found very few stations that connected so anything new would be appreciated.

One other item, do you have a process to enable listening to a station that has the "Listen Live" feature. WLS-AM in Chicago is an example.

Thanks for all the work on this it works great.

One thing to look out for though:

If you ever configured your player to use a local list to obtain stations then you'll have to go undo those changes before you use this site.

At the time you posted there were no issues with the server. However, this does not mean that the path from the server to your AT was all up and running.

Yes - for now at least - the personalised list overrides the default list.
We have spoken about making it additive - but not confirmed yet.

Connect to the AAT with your webbrowser.

Select Settings, Turtleradio and look at the TurtleRadio player ID field.

Match this field with your account here.. (either change the field or register here with the id as listed)

Then login and select the stations you like as favorit. Your favorites are listed under MyFavorites and will be available on your AT as well.

Sorry, I re-read some posts and information about TurtleRadio and found that my AT gets 79 stations from internet, due to turtleradio redirection, now I will explore how to customize my list or get a local list, if you want a tester I'm here.
(btw, mine is a Gateway encapsulated AT, and I upgraded the firmware yesterday to 3.2.25 smoothly)

Good question. The 79 are from a 'standard' file that Paul supplied. I have no idea how many entries the AT can handle. But I will test that with a large file and my AT.

I discovered today that my belowed Audiotron, which has not been able to find any radiostations for years, suddenly reports "79 stations"! This i great, but why only 79, why not the thousands of stations that are listed here?

Now no need to do the above DNS fiddling

TurtleBeach have made the DNS switchover - so this is now the default service for Audiotron.

I had mentioned CNAME as being the best route - but the quick and easy stuff that I found seems to only have the equivalent of an A record.

For those doing this in a full-blown DNS package like BIND, the easiest way I found is to do a CNAME to penbex.mine.nu, so that we can follow the IP around as it changes (which it did from Saturday to Sunday).  Here's a copy of my zone file for turtleradio.com (with personal info removed):

I will update the big post to make it clear that some routers might well make this easier.

If you're behind a router and know what you're doing, it's even easier. I redirect simply by adding duncan.turtleradio.com to my router's internal DNS and supplying it with the results from the ping. Blammo. Done. No software install necessary.

Works like a charm!  (Haven't tried adding my own stations yet.) 

Also - should state for people who do not have an Audiotron (AT) that it has been out of production for many years. There is no support or maintenance available.

Things to watch out with the AT ....

• Does not follow HTTP 301 or 302 redirects - so take care when adding stream URLs
• Does not handle .m3u lines starting with # (trick available to get around this)
• Keeps local copy of database IP address ... resets on restart ... problem for now because the IP address for this database changes every now and then (should be static from early November)

Basic instructions - not for the feint hearted. It will become much easier if TB help.

You might be lucky and find that your router allows you to add hostnames into a local routing table.
If you can do this then the ideal would be to add the equivalent of a DNS CNAME record and map
duncan.turtleradio.com to penbex.mine.nu
If your router does not allow mapping to a name - but does allow an IP address to be added (equivalent to a DNS A record) then lookup the IP address of penbex.mine.nu and add that. Note, however, that this IP address changes every now and then (at least until early November 2009) so you would have to modify it in your router if you find that the Audiotron is not collecting updates.
So - if the above worked for you then you can skip the rest - simply create an account here and start selecting stations to set as your favourites.


If your router does not allow you to add hostnames and if your Audiotron is not already set for static IP addresses then probably go no further for now unless you have a good understanding of home networking.


Setting up a local DNS(workaround until TB makes DNS changes).

Here is one way to run a local DNS to get around the problem of TB pointing to a non-existant database (if you have a Windows machine available).

On a Windows machine:

First collect some information
Find the current IP address of penbex.mine.nu
e.g. Start/Run/Cmd
ping penbex.mine.nu
Don't worry that the ping does not reach the server - simply make a note of the IP address.
Probably something like 84.227.132.95
This is referred to as [addressA] below.

Note: this numeric IP address changes a lot ... so if you find that your AT can no lnger get station updates then get the new IP address and edit your config file (see below) and restart "Dual Server" (see below).

Find your own IP address and current DNS setting
e.g. Start/Run/Cmd
ipconfig /all

It will probably be something like 192.168.0.2 for your own IP address ([addressB] below) and 192.168.0.1 for the DNS (might be the DNS of your ISP - that is also fine) ([addressC] below).
Do not use 127.0.0.1

Download and install "Dual Server" http://dhcp-dns-server.sourceforge.net/

No need to run it as a service for now - you can invoke it from the new Windows group
From the new menu item - choose Dual Server/Configure
This will bring up a text file editor on a file called DualServer.ini
Look for the section beginning

[WILD-HOSTS]
and add to it
duncan.turtleradio.com=[addressA]
e.g.duncan.turtleradio.com=84.227.145.132
(this IP address changes a lot so don't use the one shown above)

Check the first few sections of the DualServer.iniensure that the following are set ..

[SERVICES]
DNS
'DHCP

[LISTEN-ON]
[addressB]

[DNS-ALLOWED-HOSTS]
192.168.0.1-192.168.255.254

[DNS-SERVERS]
[addressC]

the rest can stay as default.

If your local IP address is 10.x.x.x then you need to adjust some of the 192.x.x.x settings above.
If you need help with this then post the output of your ipconfig /all

Save the updated file.

Now restart DualServer
(if running as a service you can restart it from control panel for services
if running it interactively you can use control+c to break in).

Now go to the web interface of your Audiotron (default login is id admin password admin)
If it is already set to Static IP address (in Network settings) then simply change the DNS reference to point to your Windows machine where the fake DNS is now running [addressB].
If it is set for DHCP .... then probably don't bother with this process for now and come back when all is working automatically (unless you are good with network set-up)

Make a note of your TurtleRadio id from the TurtleRadio section of the AT set-up pages - and if you had enabled the local file look-up then disable it.
Restart the Audiotron (pull out the power cable - wait and reinsert it then press the power button on the front of the device to turn it on).
If all has gone well then it will have loaded a dummy set of stations from the new service.
Then go to http://penbex.mine.nu/register.php - and create a new account for yourself - using your TurtleRadio id (or pick a new one and reconfigure your AT to use that).
Now you can search/browse the new web site and pick some stations - and click the heart symbol to add them to your list.
Just pick one or two to start - and make the AT refresh its list. It should now only show your selected stations.
If things did not work out for you - then post here for help - but do read other posts first in case they answer your problem. This post will be updated as time moves on based on experiences of the early adopters.

It is quite possible that some stations from the database will not work for you - this could be becausew the database was designed for a different radio and some streams are not supported by the AT.
It could also be because the stream URL is wrong. There are people around who can fix stream URLs so if you find something not working then for now post a message in the missing stations forum section (rather than reporting it broken via the station listing page) and say that you have hit this problem and that your device is an Audiotron. People can then check to see if this is an AT problem or a database problem. If we can determine stream types that simply can never play on the AT then we can look at hiding them from the listings (e.g. RealAudio) or putting up a warning.

Work in progress for now though.The challenge is that the Audiotron is hard-coded to connect to a long dead TurtleBeach server to get the station list.I have been in touch with TB and hope that they will endorse chaning the DNS entry to point to this site.We have the basics working now - ready for some expermimentation by a few users. However, those users will have to run their own DNS to force the AT to get here. So - if you are up for that then drop a note here and we will send you some instructions.Once the level of automation has improved we will put more general instructions here.
