Hi,

does anybody has a new firmware for the Arnova WebRadio & WebTV fixing some problems?
Model: KMP511.2.1
Firmware 1.7

Issues:
- Fixed Webradio station - no chance to modify
- Fixed WebTVstation - no chance to modify
- Love to lower the backlight of clock, as it is quite bright if you using it as alarm clock in your sleeping room
- Shoutcast does not work - no data found.

Thanks for any reply.

BR Bernd

Hello there,
I have recently purchased the Arnova Web TV Internet Radio.  The as shipped configuration is:

Model: Arnova Web TV Radio KMP511.2.1
Firmware: 1.8.5
Type: RM 003

Is this thread tracking the possible firmware update for this model and is there an update available that will let me modify the station list?  The current list is out of date (for example shows UK BBC Radio 7 and not BBC Radio 4 Extra).

I have other Reciva based radios that are up to date and pick up the latest station list from reciva.com.

Yes, I am working on a modified firmware for the Arnova.

The idea is that with the new firmware it will use the database from this site and with that you have the ability to modify station entries yourself.
You will also be able to select stations on this site and put them under MyFavorites. They will then show up on your device as well..

There appear to be several different models:
KMP511.2.1 - RM001
KMP511.2.1 - RM002
KMP511.2.1 - RM003
but so far it is not clear what the hardware differences exactly are.
Also I am trying to get more info from the manufacturer..

Best Regards,
William

Wauw William,

that would turn my Arnova from nearly null to a device.

At this moment the list of stations is so poor that we do not even use the Arnova, thus the technical device is fine.

Thanks a lot for all your efforts to update the Arnova with more stations, do you have any idea when a first beta version is to be expected?

Joop

Hi William,

I am also looking forward for a beta firmware.

BTW: Do you know the standard password for telnet in these devices? Mine (firmware 1.8.5) seems to be closed.

Cheers.

New firmware needs to match your hardware model. At the moment there is nothing newer for your model.

I am working hard on getting a solution for you and everyone else that has the arnova.
I am sure that we have something soon.

There is currently no firmware update for the Arnova.

1) KMP511.2.1 Arnova Web Radio & Web TV, RM001, known firmwares: 1.7, 1.8.3
2) KMP511.2.1 Arnova Web Radio & Web TV, RM002, known firmware: 1.8.5
3) KMP511.2.1 Arnova Web Radio & Web TV, RM003, known firmware: 1.8.5

There are no seperate update files for any of the above 3 hardware models.
They come with the firmwware pre-loaded.
Even if a firmware would be released, it needs to match your model number. So you can not load RM003 firmware on RM001 box.

Today SkyTC told me that they do not want to provide firmware updates to anyone.
Because of that I have started a new project writing a brand new firmware. It will of course be based on components that are already available so it should not take too long.
I hope to have something soon. The good thing is that even when I make a poor firmware, it will still be better than the original firmware  (joking)

~William

SkyTC don't realise the boost on sales they would have just by providing the source code of their firmware. There are perfect examples where a product is purchased by the public exactly because of the ability of them to be customized / hacked, the industry has shown a lot of examples: the Linksys router WRT-54GL, the Asus Router RT-N16 among others.

Maybe for me it is time to give away the Arnova and look for alternatives. It is very annoying that iRadio168.com lists a specific radio but for somewhat reason it is not in the list of the device itself.

Cheers,

Ruggero

Hey Penbex,

I have update my Arnova KMP511.2.1 Type: RM003 v.1.85 with your modified firmware 1.85p. After waiting 5 min it succesfully restarted and it really worked, ive found many new TV channels. The problem is, when I want to play a new channel it doesnt connects. Its just blinks "Connecting to media server" and nothing happens. In some cases it starts to buff but then stops and then restarts buffing. What can i do? By the way I want to thank you for your work and effort.

Hello William

Same thing here after the update.
Maybe it is because of the strem type (WMA)?

Thx William,

I do now see a lot more TV stations which looks very hopefull.

For the time being I have the same problem that on most channels from which I can choose the connection does not come further then "busy on trying to contact mediaserver". Some go further but not further than a buffer 0% after which it starts again with "busy on trying to contact mediaserver".

Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

MANY THANX for your efforts...

Above wording also applies for the Internet radio channels.

Exactly the same

Hi Guys!

What you discribe is a known problem. As I understand it the Listenlive Radio/TV database is for  universal use by many diferent hardware devices. I assume most URL's are fine and will play perfectly well on devices supporting the particular URL's format. But clearly the database also contains stations that this SkyTC gadget (under whichever brand) is unable to play. That is, as it is today.

Although the fairly powerfull dual-core CPU and the 'standard' Linux OS in the SkyTC device would perfectly allow it, judging by SkyTC general attitude it is unlikely this willl be solved any time soon by any original SkyTC/oEM update. Let alone any bug-fixes or new features listed in the wish-list on this site.

That is precisely why Penbex/William is working hard to develop it's own flavour of software for this in itself great 'hardware' SkyTC device!
In my view it would most certainly be embarrassing if indeed more versatile and stable software would be developed by the user group rather than by the OEM manufacturer itself. Looking at the market, it wouldn't be the first time though. Perhaps it will stimulate SkyTC to become more active themselves...?

So let's be patient to see and try the results of William.....

Thanx for your reply, but it's not what I experience.

I have channels which worked well before the update and do not work anymore after the update.

Beside of this I can tell you that almost all the channels offered worked before the update and almost all (TV Belgium & Netherlands) do not work after the update.

Nevertheless I am patient and gratefull for William's work

That's odd! On my SkyTC device (Envivo kmp510.2) only a few TV stations from the Netherlands have ever played. In particular .ASX / Silverlight embedded links don't play SkyTC, so none of the thematic public TV channels play on my SkyTC. The same URL's did and do play perfectly well on my (PC) mediaplayer.

Could it be that your Arnova device supports other or more formats that my Envivo device ?
Perhaps some more difference exists between the various brands than previously thought.....?
Would be interesting tot investigate this further!

It is just a matter of a different media player version.
SkyTC has their own flavor of mplayer which is a modified version of the standard mplayer and more importantly it is just like their main program, full of bugs.
They recompile mplayer with every new firmware version / hardware model and in some cases they fix one bug but create a bunch of others.. :/

We are not going to keep on using the SkyTC MPlayer version though...
We will use the version that Ingenic has on their server with several fixes (already fixed a bunch of bugs) and we are going to look into using VLC.
The main goal is to support the same stream types MPlayer can do on a PC..!

Hi,

I am encountering the same problem with my Arnova Web Radio. It worked fine (RM001 with Firm Ware V1.7) until a couple of days ago  when it suddely refused to load the station lists. After some searching I found this site.
I upgraded the FW to V1.85p and now the device does load the lists again, but after choosing a station it gets stuck trying to connect to the mediaserver.

I bought this device for the web radio function and not for streaming or playing mp3's via the SD card. Unfortunately now it appears to be a big fancy mp3-player.

I am very pleased that at least somebody is looking for a solution, so thank you in advance for all the good work. Meanwhile I will keep an eye on this site, hoping that the current problem will be solved.

Thanks again.

Hi everybody,

I own two Arnovas and one Xoro HMT 350 so far (I think I will have a second Xoro in the near future, too ... ).

Yesterday I installed the new firmware 1.85p on one of my Arnovas, which had Vs. 1.7 before. At first, thanks to William!

I would like to mention 3 points/problems which I have now:

1. same problem as all the others have (is there any chance to change that again, William?):

Quote:

For the time being I have the same problem that on most channels from which I can choose the connection does not come further then "busy on trying to contact mediaserver". Some go further but not further than a buffer 0% after which it starts again with "busy on trying to contact mediaserver".

2. the analog clock stops after slumbering with one of my favourite radio stations (I found it out this morning after slumbering about 3 times or so). The internal clock still works and also the timer, but the big clock that is shown on the screen stops until the timer is playing the station again. Please find out why this clock is frozen now.

3. My Xoro has a wonderful feature to insert own favourites in the chosen favourite list: It´s only necessary to copy a txt-file named "browse_list" to the radio with simple strings of the format (name of station|URL) . Then you find an entry called "User list" in the favourite list.

(have a look at http://www.xoro.de/downloads/home-media-player/downloads-fur-xoro-hmt-350/ for this feature).

Is it possible to have something like this in firmware version 1.86p, William ??

Its great that I have found this forum now!

Juergen

Remark: I just found the possibility of working with favourite lists on this website. I will find out whether it works as fine as the Xoro solution (see above)!

Amendment: No, it doesn´t work. The same situation as above (Point1): Buffer 0%, Buffer 3%, Buffer 0%, Buffer 3%, Buffer 0%, Buffer 3%, and so on ... I´m afraid this firmware is not the solution of the problems.

Has anyone tried to put the Xoro HMT 350 firmware on the Arnova?? I know, it maybe that you can throw it away if it is possible. But perhaps I do it anyway. And replace it by another Xoro with excellent firmware which is distributed to the enduser (see above). The Xoro service has told me I should try it "on my own risk" - they have not done it so far ...

You can not load the Xoro firmware on the Arnova. If you trie you end up with a dead device. So dont do that.
The problem that some stations are not working with the modified firmware is known and could be fixed but since there will be a new firmware release for all devices that will solve it anyway, there is no real use to making a quick and dirty patch for the time being..

Just hang on for a little bit.. I just need some more time.

Thank you William for the info, of course I will wait now.

And another information for you concerning "fixing":

I had to change back to my other Arnova with Vs. 1.7 this morning due to another problem with alarm and snooze with a radio station. The alarm function does not work reliable now with the new firmware. This time I was asked whether I want to play the station before again (during snooze function!), I answered "No" and missed the news because this question stopped the radio station for one (!) snooze sequency only. Later it started again and ...

In Vs. 1.7 you only can press a button after awaking and there are no possibilities to make mistakes or answer questions or .. or ...

Regards Juergen

Yes, there are newer versions available for most models. Right now I am finishing version 1.3
Once it is done I will make new files for all models.

Thank you very much for your continued work on solving problems and ímproving the devices' software.

With a ARNOVO System KMP511.2.1 and Firmware 1.85p there is still no unproblematic way to upgrade to your 1.3, as there is not adequate 1.0? Is this correct?

Or did I miss the crucial point, a 1.0 for ARNOVO with KMP511.2.1?

Please give me some advice, keen to try 1.3!

Best regards, cawisch.

Hi

I have this radio model 511, 2.1

I am new to this fourm. Is it possible to get a firmware update? I have no idea where I would download it or how I would get it from computer to radio. If you have any ideas, I would appreciate them.

Thanks

1.8.5 is not available. Initially I started out with patched versions of the original firmware but when I found out there is a time bomb (killer bug) on the official firmware I decided not to put these versions online anymore.
You can update your device with a loader program for your model. Once this is done and your device boots into the loader you can load the listenlive firmware. All files are in the Listenlive SkyTC firmware section.

Files are available under "Files"", section "Listenlive Firmware (SkyTC replacement firmware)"
Check the RM00x version of your device and download the matching loader.

Update from the original firmware to the loader. Then update to the generic listenlive firmware.

My Arnova WebRadioTV -- bought some years ago:

   Model:       KMP511.2.1
   Firmware:  V1.7
   Wifi:           00:0a:eb:aa:2d:ca
RMxxx:      No indication whether RM001, RM002 or RM003 (unfortunately)

Since some few weeks it is not possible anymore to update the list of senders, a "network connection error" is displayed after some time search. I assume, the URL address was changed. Only some of my favorites still work.

So I am trying to update the firmware and found the possibility to use your generic firmware! However, I did not understand the full process of updating the firmware or installing the ListenLive generic firmware.

1. Updating the Arnova firmware
After connecting the Arnova radio to my computer (a Debian system), I see a mass storage unit denominated ARNOUA with three directories: MUSIC, PICTURES and VIDEO. I decided first to update the firmware following the instructions under http://arnovatech.com/support/firmware.html?country=de&lang=de&g=3.1, i. e, copying the file
LLFirmware_loader_v2_for_Arnova_kmp511.2.1_RM001.zip (as downloaded from your Web site, and assuming that my radio is a RM001 hardware type) on the top level of the ARNOUA mass storage.

After restarting the web radio, now disconnected from my computer, and choosing of the firmware update option,  nothing happened, only a "file error" message. Might I have another RM type?

2. Installing the Listenlive firmware
I downloaded your user manual for this software, could however not find installation instructions.
Didn't I see another important manual?

Thanks in advance for any hint, particularly regarding the replacement of the Arnova propietary by the ListenLive generic firmware. I would prefer to install directly the ListenLive firmware.

Best regards,  Juaco13

@ Juaco13

Welcome on the LL-forum!

Did you read this post? http://www.listenlive.nl/board/message.php?id=3755
After login you can see the files;
1e. -
you must upgrade the appliance [upgrade from: original Arnova KMP511.2.1 RM001 original firmware
to: ListenLive Loader]
via a SD card with contains the loader-file to be found on
http://www.listenlive.nl/dlpagerep.php?file=LLFirmware_loader_v2_for_Arnova_kmp511.2.1_RM001.zip
2e. - then you have to take another SD card with the new LLFirmware to update:

Llfirm V1.52 All 3.5inch Models
Firmware version 1.52 ** ONLY for models with a 3.5inch screen **
This is the actual firmware. You can load this directly from the Listenlive Loader

Give it a try after reading the instructions also under the line!

Gr. Henk

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

manual (from Penbex/William):  (Unzip the files before using!!)
Loading Listenlive firmware: To load firmware 1.52x you need the Listenlive Loader with at least v2.0 installed on your device already.
If you have Listenlive Loader v2, first install the new loader (any version will work but it is best to get the one that matches your model) then update to the
1.52x firmware.
If you are still on the original firmware you first need to install the "loader" firmware.
The loader firmware has to be loaded as a regular firmware update. Thus via SD (official firmwares 1.86 and up support SD cards) or from the Internal flash memory in case you have an older original firmware like v1.7.
Once you have installed the loader firmware and the system reboots you get into a text mode screen. This screen has a few options, the main use is to flash your device with a new firmware.

If you are using the 1.52x or higher firmware, put the contents of the 1.52x archive on a SD card and reboot your device to get into the loader and perform the update with option 1.

Note: to update from the original firmware, for each model a specific loader is required! If your loader is not available yet it most likely will be soon, just post a message with your device details. Trying other loaders is useless as that will not work!

Upgrading from an original firmware to the Loader should not take long. Whatever you do, do not cut power during the update.
Upgrading from the loader to the Listenlive firmware takes a bit longer since much more data has to be written. Again do not cut power during the process.

Note: In some cases, the Arnova update process seems to take a long time (35 minutes!) Do not interrupt this process or you might end up with a dead device!!

Important: Do not interrupt the update process, if you do it will most likely kill your device

To download any files from this server, you need to be logged in. The firmware is available HERE

Hi William, and everyone
Please help me
I do not want to make mistakes (because I'm a novice) and the Arnova die, so I ask before I update my LLFirm_V1.52.
Before installing LLFirm_V1.52, I would like to ask you.
After KMP511.2.1 V1.7 webradio inside the root directory of the extracted installation Llfirmware V2 Loader, the loader
It supports the SD card (external) LLFirm_V1.52 install? Or this is only possible with the internal memory?
Before the installation of the web radios will need to be carried out in other settings, such as wi-fi? The V1.52 installation, use the WiFi, Internet? The loader V2 which is selectable from the menu to install the V1.52? (Because it can be seen only after a successful installation). What Make sure that you do make a mistake?
Thanks forward to help (because I'm a novice)
