Hi,
Having trouble with BBC Radio 4 (FM or LW) not streaming on device. It just spends forever trying to connect. They were working yesterday.
There are several variations on the web site when you search 'bbc radio 4'. I am unable to ascertain if they are streaming as when I click on any to play I just get dumped back to the general station list on the web site.
I was able to do a work around by going to the Genre section and finding it under 'talk' - as I understand thing these are the original  links from iradio168.com.

What to do- for this or others? - Should I find a valid stream and ask for it to be included or inquire each time to see if there is a sever/bandwidth issue? (let's not waste your time).

Thanks in advance for looking into.

Ok, so this is with a SkyTC model.
If you browse on the device via Genre you get the original database contents for now.. If you browse through Region you get both the original and stations from this server.
Even though the contents of Genre are from the original iRadio168 server, the lists are requested to and send from this server by the firmware.

This is actually a temporary solution as I first implemented the browsing through Regions for "Radio" mode.
Then I added the TV part to the website and made that available on the radio as well.

All data lists are from the server here, even the Shoutcast and Podcast lists are coming from the server here.
In the near future there will be seperate sections to control the Shoutcast and Podcast content as well. I just need a little bit of time to integrate it to the site.

Also, if you feel that you are missing stations and you know the stream url, you can use the "Suggest" option to add them to the database yourself.

If you want to use the "play stream" feature, you need to allow pop-ups because the stream url is opened in a new window. Also you need to have a media player on your system.
When I have a bit of time I will check if we can use an embedded media player.

I have checked BBC Radio 4.. most of the provided links are ASX type and there currently seems to be a problem with this in the firmware.
I changed one of them to have a mms style of link. Look for "BBC Radio 4 - mms" in your list. It works here on the device.
The advantage of a mms url is that it points directly to the stream. The advantage of the ASX type of url is that the device gets a list with mss stream url's that it can try to play.
In the case of BBC Radio 4 there are 32 ! mms streams with the ASX. The first few are not working for me with Win. Media Player. Perhaps those are dead or the server is full or so.

The above makes me wonder if the timeout for the 32 individual streams is just very long on the device...With a fast server close to your own location the timeout can be short, but that can give problems with more exotic stations that are on the other side of the globe on slow connections. I am sure there must be a solution for this though.

Anyway, enjoy BCC4
William

Thanks William it works now.
Probably best radio station in world so got to get this going even if everything else was gone!
Lots to ponder about with station urls.
I've come across others that don't work or incorrect in some way e.g. Al Jazzera TV- no links work except one that looks like it is stuck on a screenshot and RTE TV plays a segment of an old programme.
What I will do as I go along is to try find working stream and 'suggest ' these.
Again, thanks for your clever work and if you need any help it trying out /testing any links just let me know.

Brendan.
